ONE WAY PROCEDURES for WINTER
We will NOT be reserving one-way tickets to the Summit or from the Summit from mid-November through mid-May since (due to snow, ice and wind conditions) we never can be sure of making the Summit until about 45 minutes before the train departs the Manitou depot. In addition, our trains sometimes must leave the Summit (when they do make it up) earlier than the scheduled departure time due to adverse weather conditions.
If we are making the Summit, we will sell one-way tickets either at the depot 45 minutes before departure (for those brave souls wanting to hike down)or at the Summit (space permitting) for those hardy enough to make the climb up.
Hikers CAN make reservations for the Mountain View Station (1/2 way up and 1.5 miles from Barr Camp) BOTH up and down. If you are coming down, you will need to meet the train on the way UP (30 minutes after departure) since the varying nature of the winter trips means we cannot ascertain the time the train will pass Mountain View on the way down. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN GUARANTEE BEING PICKED UP AT MOUNTAIN VIEW.
Please understand this policy is in effect because we don't want anyone stranded on Pikes Peak. Adverse weather moves quickly and our schedule is too variable.
